Transcultural adaptation of Patient-Reported Outcomes in Obesity (PROS) questionnaire for Brazil

ABSTRACT: Objective: To perform a cross-cultural adaptation and validation in the Brazilian cultural context of questionnaire Patient-Reported Outcomes Obesity (PROS). Methods: The process involved translation from original English language into Portuguese by two qualified independent translators. back-translation was performed teachers who were native speakers, without any medical knowledge scale. An expert committee created with researchers to assess semantic, idiomatic, experiential conceptual equivalence. pre-test version, named PROS-Br, carried out ten adults obesity. psychometric properties instrument, cross-sectional epidemiological study out. population consisted 120 obesity went appointment at school-clinic. Item Response Theory Factor Analysis Principal Component Extraction used for psychometrics analysis. measure reliability, α-Cronbach indicator used. Results: In reliability analysis, 0.82. Two factors explained 58.3% total variance principal component involving behavioral physical aspects. curves showed that all questions have discriminatory characteristics, pointing adequacy proposed version. Conclusion: version proven valid reliable quality life individuals obesity, allowing one develop intervention strategies, plan execute actions services public health policies.
